Kevin Costner

Kevin Costner received the Lifetime Achievement Award. He joked as he started his acceptance speech and kept it fairly simple. “However my name found its way, stumbled on the list of actors of a certain age, that happened to be in town. I am humbled and honored by your selection. I would like to thank the directors who took the chance on me….to all the drivers who drove me early and late and kept me safe…to the people who prepared the food for us…thank you. To my the crews who worked impossible hours…and of course to my fellow actors to always manage to fight their way to this mythical place called Hollywood, nobody has it better than us right? So try to act grateful, this can only end where it started. So I want to say a simple thank you to my parents and my beautiful wife and partner,”Mr. Costner said as he concluded.

Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain won the first ever Critics’ Choice MVP Award. At the same time Ms. Chastain took the time to make a very strong and important speech after her thanks and recognition to everyone for her award. She took it upon herself to speak up about the inequality that still exist in today’s world.  She went on to say ““It got me thinking about our need to build the strength of diversity in our industry, and to stand together against homophobic, sexist, misogynistic, anti-Semitic, and racist agendas.”  As she continued she was applauded. Her speech was fueled because the Oscar nominations had been given to all white nominees. She finished her speech with one of Dr. King’s quotes. “Martin Luther King Jr. said, ‘Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter,’ and I would like to encourage everyone in this room to please speak up. Thank you.”

ron howard

Director Ron Howard as he was presented with the Louis XIII Genius Award for his body of work. Joey Berlin, president of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, which presents the Critics’ Choice Awards had this to say about the recipient. “Ron Howard is a cinematic genius and someone who has paved the way for many filmmakers today,” said “Ron’s films truly speak to his work ethic and attention to detail. We expect his upcoming project about the inspiring real life story behind Moby-Dick to be a notable continuation of his legacy.”
